Identity Crisis

Izzie White's latest showcase attempts a reconciliation of our shared modern lifestyle and the natural world. Presenting objects of domesticity escaping into the bush, this exhibition chronologically follows a humble checkerboard cloth, a representation of domesticity. We bear witness to this checkerboard cloths escape into the wild, while the natural world appears to continue resiliently and unaware. Paying homage to heavy handed baroque techniques, born out of a religious fervour of that time, White utilises heavily decorative and whimsical motifs and skilfully employs light and shadow as reference to her own yearning for escapism and deep reverence for nature.
